Reception at Exeter County Court on 4th December 2013
This is a quick post to say thanks to all those who made our Mediation reception at Exeter County Court such a success.
Thank you to His Honour Judge Tyzack QC for his kind and encouraging words to us all. Thanks to District Judges Arnold and Waterworth for their time and support.
It was brilliant to see so many friends.
It was really great that everything came together so nicely. Whilst it was my idea, the workload was shared between is.
The Mediation Services who took part were;
- Ian Walker Family Law and Mediation Solicitors,
- Gilbert Stephens Mediation,

Watch out for a fuller post. In the meantime a short recap;
What was Dispute Resolution Week?
An awareness-raising week to highlight the alternatives to court for separating couples.
This year National Family Dispute Resolution Week ran between 25-29thNovember
We delayed our contribution in Devon, to avoid a clash with Domestic Abuse Awareness Week
Why was Dispute Resolution Week so important this year?
Since Legal Aid changes came int effect in April therehas been a massive downturn in the take up of mediation.
Many people are not aware that Legal Aid is still widely available for family mediation
For those who are eligible for Legal Aid, Family Mediation is FREE
Families are not realising the value of mediation to them and are increasingly going to Court
This is a tragedy for families.
There is lots of stuff on this website about how mediation can really work for families
What did we do in Devon?
We held a Reception at Exeter County Court on Wednesday 4 December for the local legal and family law community.
It is important
It is important because mediation is an important option for families, and it is essential that families have sufficient awareness that they are able to choose Mediation if it is the right option for them.
There is a website for DR week at; www.nationalfamilydrweek.org.uk
Thanks to everyone for their support
