Lis Bellamy - About Me

Lis Bellamy
Solicitor / Compliance Manager

My role is to assist Ian in ensuring that our practice and our team maintain and where possible exceed, best practice when meeting all relevant professional standards.

Following my law degree at Oxford University I qualified as a solicitor and in my early career I spent several years in private practice working for large law firms both in the UK and in Singapore.

In 2001 I became the managing partner of a law firm in Cheshire and I gradually moved away from fee-earning to full-time business management. My role included responsibility for the growth of the firm and attending to all risk and compliance matters.

More recently I have acted as a consultant to a number of firms advising on all aspects of management including client care and complaints handling.

For six years I was a member of the Law Society’s Professional Standards and Ethics Committee and in 2018 I joined the Office for Legal Complaints – the Board of the Legal Ombudsman.

I am also a non-executive director of Archery GB and lead on sports governance. Although I have never shot an arrow myself I am proud to say that my son has represented his country at archery.

I now live on the Dorset/Devon border and enjoy living by the sea. I can sometimes be found on the beach trying to find fossils with my husband.

I love travel and discovering new places. I try to get away when I can, exploring both the UK and overseas. I’m also a keen cook and like to experiment with new dishes.
